Dengue cases on a rise, Delhi records 12 cases in a single day
Twelve people have been found positive for dengue - five of them minors - in capital, the highest number reported in a single day. In this season so far, 85 dengue cases have been reported from Delhi.

ALARMED AT the rising numbers, civic agencies ahve intensified fumigation across the city. While 34 and 35 cases have been found in north and south Delhi respectively, 10 such cases were found so far under the area of East municipal corporation of Delhi.

“This spurt in cases is expected, as mosquito breeding takes place once the monsoon ends, till the onset of winter. The total number of cases is still the lowest in a decade, for this time of the year," a civic official told The Financial Express.

Lending credence to his statement, statistics say that out of 230 reported cases only 68 patients are reported positive with dengue till the end of September this year as compared to 3,201 who were found positive with dengue during same time period last year. Out of these cases two people lost their lives, including a nine-year old girl from Sangam Vihar and 38-year-old man from Ghaziabad.

As per doctors, this year saw a milder effect of dengue in the city and if patients seek doctor's appointment on time then it would be easy to treat them, without any needs of hospitalisation. "We have hardly seen any complications like the Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS), or platelet fall in dengue this year. If patients do not self-medicate and report to hospitals at the early signs of fever, the disease is very manageable,” a senior doctor from the medicine department of AIIMS said.

Delhi Health Minister Dr A K Walia said, “We are trying to detect the virus early, so that we have an accurate picture of the disease prevalence in the city and neighbouring states.”
