Dera Sacha Sauda - the real reasons behind its huge following!
The controversial Dear Sacha Sauda chief – Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is in headlines for the last two days following the impending verdict in the sexual harassment case by the special CBI court at Panchkula.

His followers have gathered at Panchkula and worship centres called – Naam Charcha Ghars – and are praying that the verdict goes in favour of the Dera chief.

The authorities are taking cognizance of the situation in case any untoward situation arises on account of announcement of verdict by the CBI Court at Panchkula in the case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on August 25.

While the followers of Dera Sacha Sauda have started gathering at Panchkula, the civil and district administration have jointly taken the decision to maintain law and order and the deputy commissioners have ordered a ban on the sale of petroleum products in open. The sale of acid has also been banned and arms dealers have been asked to close down their shops till further orders.

Both the states – Haryana and Punjab – have made elaborate arrangements and issued high alert and suspended train and bus services. Schools and colleges shall also remain closed for two days. Security has been beefed up to deal with any untoward situation arising out of the announcement of verdict. The highways are giving a deserted look, causing a lot of inconvenience to the public.

The administration has also announced suspension of internet services for 72 hours in Haryana, Punjab & Chandigarh to avoid spreading of rumours through social media.

But there must be something special about the Dera that it has such ahuge number of followers, who are now gathered at Panchkula despite the Derachief being involved in controversies over a number of issues including dressing himself up like the tenth guru of the Sikhs, and rape and murder cases pending against him!

The main reasons behind the blind following of the Dera are – caste impartiality, top-level management, subsidised food and free medicines.

The Dera followers are known as 'Insaan' (human-being), as all are equal in the Dera while there is too much discrimination in the society on the basis of caste.

The management of the Dera is devised in such a way that everyone is given due respect and is responsible for the duty assigned to him or her. Even the lower caste people are accorded due respect. Perhaps this is the reason behind unprecedented support for the Dera and its chief!

Subsidised food, free medicines and availability of treatment for chronic diseases like cancer, knee replacement etc for the poor people are major reasons that draw people to the Dera. Sangrur, Mansa, Bahtinda, Fazilka, Ferozepur and Faridkot districts have maximum number of followers of the Sirsa-based (Haryana) Dera Sacha Sauda.

Above all, the spiritual Dera environment, in times when a majority of the people are living under stress and depression, gives relief to people apart from the available facilities.

Now let's wait and see how the followers of the Dera give proof of their being Insaan by honouring the verdict of the court in a peaceful way!
