Dhaula Kuan gang-rape case: 5 convicts sentenced for life
The five accused in the 2010 Dhaula Kuan gang-rape case have been sentenced for life by the trial court on Monday. These people kidnapped and gang-raped the 30 year old BPO employee. Virender Bhat, additional sessions judge sentenced these five for life imprisonment with a fine of of Rs. 50,000 on each.

The fine will be treated as a compensation amount, which would be paid to the victim for the trauma she went through. All the accuses worked together, abducted the girl, gang-raped her and criminally intimidate her on November 24, 2010.

The five men abducted the northeast women, at 12:40am on November 24, 2010 while she was walking home with a friend after work. They took her to Mangolpuri, outraged her modesty and then dumped her on an isolated road. Later, they were all arrested from Mewat, Haryana. After this incident, all BPO companies in Delhi and NCR were ordered by Delhi Police to drop their women employees at their doorstep with proper security.

Public prosecutor Satwinder Kaur, during Friday's hearing had urged the court to hand out maximum punishment for the crime to all the convicts stating that the men had a history of criminal record as well.

After learning about the verdict, the family members of the accused broke down outside the courtroom and one accused Shahid lost his consciousness and suffered trouble breathing, in the courtroom itself.
