Atul Wassan, a former Indian doesn't agree with some cricketers like Mark Waugh and Wasim Akram who criticised MS Dhoni's captaincy after a disappointing performance put up by the Indian players in their ongoing Australian tour.
“IS IT justified that people ridicule Dhoni for his captaincy skills after proving he proved it at the international level,” Atul Wasan replied as Merinews asked for his reaction to Mark Waugh’s claim that Dhoni was a defensive captain. Even bowling legend, Wasim Akram had also questioned Dhoni’s captaincy.
As reported by PTI, former Australian cricketer, Mark Waugh had accused Dhoni of being defensive after Indian team put a disappointing performance in their ongoing Australian tour. Atul believes that Dhoni took the right approach by not choosing an attacking field after conceding a big lead. But, one has to remember that it is only by attacking the Aussie batsmen that the Indian team can take wickets. Else, they just have to wait for the opposition to make mistakes.
Wassan added, “MS Dhoni has almost achieved everything as the captain of the Indian cricket team, be it the IPL, Champions league, T20 World Cup 2007, ICC world Cup 2011, etc, but still people ridicule him for his captaincy skills after proving at the international level”. Is it justified?
In the current tour, it is the Indian team famed batting line up that has not been able to cope up with the Australian bowlers. Though, the batsmen have scored some runs, but they have not been able to build those starts and convert it into a big score, which is very crucial against a team like Australia, who likes to dictate terms to the opposition. The bowlers impressed in the first Test but not the ongoing Test match at SCG, where they could only capture 4 wickets.
In the past too, we have seen many players being praised for their performances and ridiculed the next series for their underperformance. It is a part and parcel of Indian cricketers’ lives. MS Dhoni house had been attacked by fans, after
India lost their world cup match against Bangladesh, in 2007.
