Dial 1909 if you don't want telemarketers sending text massages
We have always been irritated by the number of messages that land in our mobile phones from various telemarketers, when we do not even want to read them. So, a solution has been finalised, where the mobile user needs to call or send a message to a toll fr

HOW MANY times have we received text messages, which read bank loan schemes available, credit cards, business deals, etc., on our mobile phones? Most of us do not even want to read these, and delete it instantly. It is very irritating for mobile users to receive such kind of messages when one is expecting an important call or a message. As a result of which, DND (DO Not Disturb) number 1909 will be operating soon so as to control such messages, which are being sent by tele marketers. Hence, it seems we will no longer be irritated by these messages, which has been a regular headache for many mobile users who have been complaining about it to their service providers.

Those mobile users who do not want to receive these messages need to register their numbers with national do-not-call (NDNC) registry, where they are required to call or send messages to 1909, which is a toll free number. After their number has been registered the server will block these kinds of messages, which are being sent by tele-marketers. Telecom minister Kapil Sibal said that the system would be introduced within the next 6 weeks or so.

There are various kinds of categories under which users can block their SMSes such as banking, insurance, financial products, credit cards, real estate, education, health, consumer goods and automobiles, communication, broadcasting, entertainment, IT, tourism and leisure. It has also been stated that a steep fine would be levied, Rs 25,000, on tele-marketers, if they violate the DND rules. If they violate the rule for around 5 times consequently, then the registration for the telemarketer may be cancelled.
