Diamer-Bhasha Dam foundation stone laid, to reap economic benefits
The foundation stone for the Diamer-Bhasha Dam has been laid by the PM of Pakistan, Yusuf Raza Gilani. It will take 10 years for it to be constructed. The people of Pakistan are pinning lots of hope on it to solve their water and electricity requirements.

IT WAS a historic day for Pakistan yesterday as the stone was laid for the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yusuf Raza Gilani. The dam is likely to play a major role in solving the electricity problem in Pakistan. It would be able to generate 4,500MW electricity enough for the next 20 years or so and would be able to hold water up to 6.4 Million Acre Feet, which translates into a height of 270 meters. The people of Pakistan have to wait for another 10 years for it to be fully constructed.

The dam, which is going to be built on river Indus, will hold great significance for Pakistan’s economy in the field of agriculture - especially in generating employment to many citizens. The dam is estimated to cost around 12 billion dollars. Everyone expects the dam to be built in such a manner, where the people of Pakistan reap benefit and the money should not go waste. The construction of the dam would also mean good news for a large number of Pakistanis, who have often been troubled by the absence of electricity for long hours.

The PM of Pakistan, Yusuf Raza Gilani, was also in full praise for the local people in the area who were ready to give up on their land, which was deeply rooted to their ancestors, as reported by dawn.com. They must have done so hoping that they would reap benefit from the dam in the future. If everything goes according to plan, it would indeed be a very successful venture. If the construction of the dam would be completed in the scheduled given time, it could also be a great achievement for the Pakistan government, who have most of the times not been able to deliver on time due to one reason or the other.
