FORMER ARGENTINA captain and coach Diego Maradona has signed a two-year agreement with the Dubai football club, Al Wasl sports club to become its coach. The club is likely to reveal the details of his contract in a press conference in the first of week of June.
The Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona will take over as Al Wasl sports club's coach when the next season opens in September. However, Maradona will be formally introduced by the club next month.
Al Wasl sports club, who won the Gulf Championship last year, currently sits at the fourth place in UAE's domestic league. The Club has fired its Brazilian coach Sergio Farias in March. The Dubai-based Al Wasl sports club is considered one of the top clubs in the UAE.
The Argentine great, 50-year-old Diego Maradona, who was the coach of Argentina national team since 2008, has been out of coaching since Argentina lost to Germany by 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup Football 2010.
Diego Maradona, who is also considered as one of the greatest football players of all time, appeared in four FIFA World Cup tournaments, including the 1986 tournament. In 1986 FIFA World Cup football, he captained Argentina and won the tournament after a victory over East Germany in the final.
Al Wasl football club, founded in 1960, is the only UAE team that has participated in all the UAE Premier Division seasons without missing a single one.
