Cervical cancer is the third most dangerous type of cancer. Hundreds of women are killed worldwide due to this cancer. The more disturbing part of it is, that one-third of these cancer deaths are associated with wrong dietary practices. Cervical cancer is a slow growing cancer that starts in the cervix - the lower part of the uterus.
Vitamins A, C and E - First comes the vitamins, the vitamins A,C,E and calcium are antioxidants which help to protect cells that cause damage from free radicals and thus prevent cervical cancer. Foods rich in Vitamin A includes orange, carrot, squash, eggs, liver and dairy products. A new study published by International Journal of Gynaecologic Cancer states that individuals who use multivitamins, which includes these supplements have lower risk of Human papillomaviruses (HPV), a common virus that can cause cervical cancer.
Foods rich in vitamin B folate – Folate lowers the level of homocysteine, a substance responsible for abnormal cell growth in the cervix. Broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage are excellent sources to boost folate consumption and prevent the cancer.
Antioxidant rich foods – Foods rich in antioxidants are also advised for the prevention. Blueberries, squash, bell peppers, cherries, salmon and fatty fish are the antioxidants enriched food options.
Avocados are acknowledged for their antioxidants effect, and their ability to attack three radicals, this restricts the intestinal absorption and limits cervical cancer development. Carrots contain beta carotene, which is also good to prevent cervical cancer growth. Incorporating jalapenos and chilli pepper is also a good way to avoid cervical cancer. Remember, diet cannot stop any cancer, but it can definitely decrease the chances. So eat healthy and stay disease-free.
