It is the most historical method, prior to advances in medicine. Most of the mothers choose to deliver their baby in this method, but the experience can be very traumatizing without proper preparation. Mothers who plan for a natural birth can prepare themselves before the delivery by attending childbirth classes to learn different techniques of natural childbirth, like breathing exercise, hypnosis, visualization etc.
The advantage of natural birth is that the mother will have a sense of accomplishment after the child birth and she can have complete control over the process of child birth. Moreover there is no risks of drug side effects, which may harm the mother or the baby. Natural birth is the safest option for childbirth, with minimal risk. But the disadvantage of natural child birth is the trauma associated with it. In order to get over the pain many opt for epidural.
The pain of the natural childbirth is too traumatizing, so the alternative to it is medicated childbirth. In this type of childbirth, the woman receives medication, which acts as a pain-killer and eliminates the pain of labor. The physician uses an IV drip mode to administer the analgesic into the body of the patient and the anesthetic blocks the nerves that carries the signal of pain.
In medicated childbirth the outcome widely varies between different mothers, some feel that the pain was completely eliminated by the use of medication, but some have trouble with the medication. But the advantage with it is that the mother who gets labor pain for longer duration can use the pain medication to get some rest. And it is also useful in the cases where the mother fears about her labor or gets very anxious. Coming to the disadvantages, this medicated childbirth can cause the blood pressure to drop suddenly, and then the mother may require oxygen and IV fluid.
In this kind of child delivery, the expecting mother gives birth to the baby in a small tub or a pool of warm water. This process became increasingly popular because of the numerous advantages associated with it for both the mother and the baby. In water childbirth the mother feels less stressful as the warm water provides buoyancy and reduces pain, allows more efficient contractions and improves the blood circulation.
The water birth is also gentle for babies as the environment (warm water pool) they are coming into is similar to the amniotic sac inside the womb.
For water birth, the hospital should have proper equipments. While water birth is safe, there are also some cons associated with it and hence, it is not ideal for all mothers and situations. For example, if the mother is expecting multiple babies or if the baby is breech.
This is the most preferred mode of childbirth in the urban areas nowadays, as mothers are afraid of the pain associated with natural birth. In a cesarean childbirth (C-section), the baby does not deliver vaginally but through incision in the mother's abdomen or uterus. The C-section process has many potential complications like more blood loss and anesthetic risk. It also requires prolonged stay in the hospital and also a longer recovery time.
