Digha to be developed into a seaside resort: Mamata's dream
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, has high hopes for Digha, Shankarpur and Mandarmani - she wants to develop this stretch into a seaside resort which would be more attractive and appealing than Goa.

Yes, Mamata Banerjee is never short of new ideas – in fact, she is bubbling with new ideas which, in her honest opinion, would attract investors to ensure that Bengal gets not just a facelift but can simultaneously exploit various tourism related business options.

As usual, Mamata Banerjee did not hesitate to point out that the previous CPM-led left front government had neglected this important area and she wants to do away with that disparity.

Earlier, she had wanted to convert Darjeeling as a tourist hub on the lines of Switzerland – wonder when that would materialize. And – in her scheme of things were plans to turn Kolkata into another London. Those were the wonderful days when she became the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Unfortunately, the progress on these fronts leaves much to be desired for. It is easy to make promises and painting rosy pictures is also not too difficult, these can satisfy one’s ego but putting those into practice takes a lot of determination and dedicated efforts.

Tourism is certainly an interesting proposition for the development of any region but it must be approached in a positive way and one has to have a clear-cut idea in black and white so that no one loses track of the path to be followed.
