The Dirty Picture proves to be picture perfect
After Ragini MMS, Ekta Kapoor production is back with yet another bold attempt at the box office with The Dirty Picture. The movie is believed to be a biopic on the life of sex symbol of the south India film industry during the 80s. A Merinews review.

THE FILM The Dirty Picture, staring Vidya Balan as the lead protagonist, along with Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor, opened to full house shows across all major cities, where people thronged the movie halls to see for themselves how 'dity' The Dirty Picture is in reel life. Though many found the movie to be as dirty as promised, many others were not quite convinced with the movie.

It is directed by Milan Lutharia who shot to fame after his directorial stint with Once Upon A Time in Mumbai. The Dirty Picture is set against the very colourful and vibrant era of South Indian film industry during the 80s, with the southern industry often being called Kollywood. It is a biopic on the life of sensuality queen Silk Smitha a simple small town girl who had dreams of making it big in the film industry, the story revolves around her journey from being a make-up girl to an item dancer, and then the most wanted heroine of the industry.

Vidya Balan, who plays the lead protagonist, has proved her potential as an actress, and has done complete justice to Silk Smitha's character. However, she could have worked a little more on her body  making it curvaceous than flabby. Although the movie focuses on Vidya’s character, the male leads have managed to highlight their presence while sharing the same screen space.

The hype created around Silk Smitha’s character and the music of the movie with songs such as Ishq Suffiana and Ooh La La have been a major reason for the initial success that the movie has got. With Vidya 'Silk Smitha' Balan swooning to the tunes of *Ooh La La*, the one thought that strikes the mind is  "To have a houseful, you definitely need a BLOUSEFUL."
