Discover, Remember and Share: Theme of World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 2017
This year, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) coordinated World Day for Audiovisual Heritage, 27 October, is being observed with the theme 'Discover, Remember and Share'.

This observance was established by UNESCO in 2005 to raise awareness on the significance of and preservation of recorded sound and audiovisual documents such as films, sound and video recordings, radio and television programmes. The task has become all the more easier in the digital age.

UNSCO stated, "Digital media has created opportunities as never before for archives to connect directly with their publics, sharing and engaging with new audiences across digital platforms in ever new ways. Promote your shared archive events and celebrations with the archive community worldwide."

UNESCO has urged the world community to organise events for national and regional sound and film archives, broadcasters, museums and libraries, and major audiovisual associations to stress the need for raising public awareness of the need for preservation.

According to UNESCO, the observance provides an occasion to raise general awareness of the need to take urgent measures and to acknowledge the importance of audiovisual documents.
