Every one of us wants to live a happy life - physically, mentally and emotionally, a blissful and peaceful life through the love of god. We all strive hard to restrain our mind to become free from ego cultivating ways to rein all our desires.
IN THE post-retirement era, there is nothing more beautiful than those rare occasions, when you wake up with a joyful heart brimming with energy to begin a new day ahead.Every one of us wants to live a happy life - physically, mentally and emotionally, a blissful and peaceful life through the love of god. We all strive hard to restrain our mind to become free from ego cultivating ways of reining all our selfish desires to become free of vices.
At any stage in life when we learn to control the mind adopting various techniques of Yoga and Meditation attaining the sattvic nature (exploring core values such as politeness, honesty and kindness), the life becomes attuned like a melodious song. In your golden era, you can use your freedom to go berserk, continue living life of daily bickering which may dominate your days. Or else, gather courage and follow what your inner fire and conscience compels you to do. Through the path of spirituality you get aligned with life you have been intending to live providing you more clarity and calmness. Sitting idle and not knowing what to do after going through morning newspaper, watching TV or spending few hours on computer, I had a conviction that yet there is, something more to do and was not afraid to explore the unexplored. Ultimately, I decided to demarcate a new time schedule to keep myself fully occupied. A new challenge was before me to keep myself busy in this new endeavor. Thanks to the computer – the new age companion, that helped me in tapping the timeless knowledge of centuries old wisdom, reading inspiring writings.Getting started:I started something of my own that not only made me mix with people but opened an avenue to explore entrepreneurship potential that remained hidden untapped all these years. In Service, most of us reach close to the top as per seniority in a routine manner. I posed a challenge to myself climbing the ladder once again from the bottom. The objective was to keep learning something new where I had no previous experience or skill, with a view to contribute something extra, to the lives of others. Some people disheartened me saying that you need energy, stamina, relentless effort and the most important, time at your disposal. I had all these in abundance and was enthused to lead my own life with no intentions to hand over control to others.Though not quite rewarding, I kept looking for an opportunity to seek fulfillment of my purpose by subduing my ego to come down to new low ebb. Just like the predictability of the seasons I use to wonder asking myself, “Who am I and why am I here?” I was convinced that what I did in my service career, defined who I was and I discovered that there is yet lots to “do” in the remaining span while we are here in this world.I began to look at “purpose” from a new and exciting perspective. Other than just fulfilling the conventional obligations and being satisfied, I set new mission statement of understanding pains and sufferings of others who are not so fortunate. This is the time when I started jotting down my thoughts on various subjects and learning more about the different directions one could select as his pathways. One common problem that has been intriguing me all these years, with no solution in sight, still continue to keep me disturbed. Seeing a child, deprived with basic necessities of life with no external guidance makes one feel sad. In limited role, as a drop fills an ocean, I gathered courage in diverting part of my additional income into this cause. With the population ever growing shrinking all other resources, make me wonder whether country having celebrated 64 years of freedom would ever be able to provide clean drinking water, food just for living, a shelter, education and medical care for children in need. Though, sounding to be an emotion arising from the heart, reading and practicing meditation, however provided me little solace in changing my emotions into faith. I try, as a practice to do one good thing each day that may bring joyful smile on some ones face. I feel convinced that if you have faith in a particular emotion seriously; believe with all your might. Do not bother about whether you may be a success or a failure. Your faith has the power. Finally, Yoga & an insight into meditation are slowly paving way to explore these questions in a meaningful way.Seventy and loving it:All of us at many memorable moments in our lives have experienced a real good time, when we felt very good within while doing something new or visiting a real scenic place. During our recent US trip, we happened to visit Branson- a lake resort in Missouri State. The lake sprawling into thousand of acres, surrounded by Ozark mountains was a real piece of beauty on earth that made us to say” Wow” We all had a different experience of eerie serenity and nature’s untouched beauty making us feel so happy to say how awesome is this………An ideal location, having its own unique atmosphere; making it believe that mind was breathing a different kind of air, an air of tranquility and peace. As we cross 70, we find that our mind overshadowed by fears, hopes, past traumas that hounded us all these years, finds a way to become free. Taking refuge in meditation, a fascinating journey begins. You soak up the peace of mind enjoying contentment, satisfaction, and happiness with your busy life at home- sweet home. Take and give could perhaps be one’s life’s purpose, as the way of giving back to society what we took from it all these years. Unfortunately most of us are wary of donating a very small portion of our savings to charity. Let’s pray and hope that India’s newly positioned billionaires divert a part of their wealth through their own charitable trusts to ensure that money is spent in a transparent manner.Make your life beautiful with a purposeYour life on purpose is a life of bold efforts, courage, conscious awareness that is still very important and what you see possible for the needy all round. From this perspective a whole new “mission statement” can be written that fires your deepest fervor and inspires you to pursue even further. Make your life beautiful with purpose that would shine even more to make a difference. It’s your life…imagine the possibilities. There is no point in maintaining an extraordinary powerful computer with no software to run it. Try to load spiritual software and change your life in a profound way!!!Some closing thoughts:We get disturbed reading cases of corruption and poor governance in daily life. Lawmakers must devise quickly a powerful mechanism to divert all ill gotten money to the public causes. Government servants must have a fear of repercussions and must be dealt with exemplary punishments towards irregularities. If Supreme Court could suggest free distribution of rotting food grain to millions of hungry, what stops Government to bring home the Indian money kept abroad in Swiss Banks, wiping of the country's entire foreign debts. How long would we be witnessing this scenario of apathy?
