Diwali shopping destinations this weekend for people of Gurgaon
With Diwali being just a few days away, and shopping fever in full swing, people of Gurgaon are on the lookout for great deals to complete their Diwali shopping. Merinews.com lists Melas where you can not only enjoy yourself but shop to your satisfaction.

THE FESTIVAL of lights is here and everyone is busy shopping and preparing for the D day. People who are knee deep in work and could not go out with their respective spouses, familiy or friends for shopping can take a break and visit the various Diwali Melas in Gurgaon. The Melas not only provide entertainment but there are places that are very good for Diwali shopping.

The Palam Vihar in Gurgaon area is dazzling with lights of all shapes and colours. The local RWA has put together a gate of lights, which looks amazing at night and attracts people towards the area where Diwali Mela is being held. Apart from eatables such as papri chat, mithai and samosas, it also has varieties of patakas or firecracker for people to take home. The venue is opposite Columbia Asia hospital and the Mela opened on October 21 and its last day is tomorrow. People who are yet to decide what to gift or which sweets to buy for Diwali, this is definitely the place.

Career women, who are not able to find time to do Diwlai shopping or people who have left it to the last minute to gift something special - Saree Utsav is the right place for you. Being held in Kingdom Of Dreams, Sector 29, Culture Gully, this place is teeming with good offers on sareers and dress material. This Diwali Mela started on October 11 and will go on till October 29. In Saree Utsav, designs and varieties are the two mantas of the Mela.  

Then there's the Palms club, next to Park Plaza in Sushant Lok. It is organising a one-day Ethnic Bazar on October 23. This is the place where one can have fun and shop around as it is primary an exhibition for people celebrating Diwali. Everything from dresses to footwear to food will be available in Palms club.

If expensive gifts for your near and dear ones is on your agenda this Sunday then you must visit Diwali Bazar, which will be organized for only one day on October 23 in Club Farms, Sushant Lok of DLF Phase 4. From gold-plated paintings to Australian bed spreads and designer potted plants, this Mela offers sophisticated choices.

For the younger generation, the colleges in and around Gurgaon, are preparing a smashing Diwali Mela, which is sure to attract a lot of footfalls. The premium management college in Gurgaon, MDI, Sector 17, which is also one of the top most management institutes of the country, is arranging for a Diwali Mela called ‘Illumina’ on October 23.

While the parents are busy buying household stuff the youngsters can easily come to Sukhrali, which is another campus site of MDI, and participate in a number of events that would take place in campus. The Mela here will have attractive prize money for its activities. For street dancing the winner would get Rs.10,000 and the runners up will get Rs. 7000/-. People who can play the guitar would also get their chance to showcase their talent and so would the people with a camera. The band Nasya will also entertain youngsters with their live concert.

So this weekend, you can take your pick from a number of Melas - from all-purpose general Melas to high-end gift-centric Melas - Gurgaon has many events that fit your taste and budget.
