Novak Djokovic is the defending champion and he would be facing lot of pressure, as all the players in the competition would be targeting the prestigious title. He defeated the Spaniard Rafael Nadal in the finals of the last edition of the championships. Other players such as Federer, Tsonga, seeded 5, and David Ferrer, seeded 7, would also be eying the title.
In the women's section, the competition has always been tough. There are no clear top 3-4 favourites for the title, unlike the men's section. It could be anyone's game, which makes it one of the most interesting title races. We can expect lots of surprises during the championship. Maria Sharapova is the top seed for the competition. Victoria Azarenka, A. Radwanska and P. Kvitova have been seeded second, third and fourth respectively.
But there are other players in the fray too like Serena Williams, who is one of the best tennis players of the modern era. Marion Bartoli, seeded 9th can create some upsets in the competition. The Chinese girl, Li Na, seeded 11, is also a strong contender for the title.
One should not completely go by the seedings that have been announced. It is a player's performance on a given day that matters the most. Still, the seedings definitely reflect the players' chances of winning the competition in 2012.
