DLF Qutab residents refuse to pay property, maintenance tax to MCG
For a layman, who hardly understands Gurgaon, it is a decorative city with wide roads, posh gated communities and all the available facilities- much better than many Indian cities.

However, if we look closely, we do see a number of cracks in the system, which is not shocking as running a big city like Gurgaon with more than one civic body and so many developers is a tricky business. But tricky business can be hard on the residents of the city, especially if they have to pay double tax for a single facility. The DLF Qutab Enclave Residents have protested against paying of the maintenance tax to both DLF and MCG.

Explaining the matter, Sumit Bhaskar, Secretary of DLF Qutab Enclave said, "With any colony, there is a single tax charged by the agency maintaining the colony. Gurgaon is being developed by MCG, so what happens is that the builders charge maintenance fee and the MCG after being formed is charging taxes."

Bhaskar asked why they are liable to pay double amount for a single service. They should and is paying fees to have their colony maintained and why should the MCG charge them taxes for the same service?

He also adds, "The MCG is verbally asking people to pay taxes but if they want to maintain the colony, they should formally take over the colony and ask for the money, which we are already paying to DLF." There are a few residents who have actually paid the tax money, while majority of the residents have protested against the move.

The MCG is yet to formally ask people to pay the tax as the case is pending in the court. This is an old tussle, which is taking place between the residents and the MCG and a tussle, which is a long way from ending. It is pinching the residents to pay twice the amount as they already pay in square yards to the builder for maintenance of their colony.
