IS DELHI truly a ‘Dllii walas’ domain or the word “Dill” from “Dilli’ spells out a big-hearted approach for everyone as an equal are the questions I have asked myself many times in the past? Why is that outsiders are more welcome than the insiders in this state in each and every section of the society?
At present, there are approximately 14 faculties, 86 academic departments and 79 colleges spread all over the city, with about 2.5 lakh students studying in the university, which is ranked 291 in the world as per Wikipedia. The University of Delhi is in service to the nation since 1922.
The question is why every state has established a university of its own? The answer undoubtedly is to cater to their respective population only. This is the reason why each and every state has its own university, recognized by UGC, to cater to their respective populace.
Then why more outsiders are allowed admissions than the locals is the biggest question to which nobody seems to have an answer?
Today approximately 70% students are from outside the states. The dubious state board management, leaked question papers, rampant cheating and proxy examinees give outsiders an edge over Delhi students who cannot adopt any of the above mentioned modus operandi to enhance their results, due to strict vigilance, law and order situation in Delhi as compared to their counterparts from other states. My guess is approximately 50% students from outside of Delhi are adopting such methods to increase their respective board examination percentages. These very students also excel in competitive exams for jobs due to the above-mentioned tactics.
Is it not a blatant injustice to Delhi students?
Right to move and settle in any part of the country with freedom to pick up any occupation is a fundamental right, but isn’t this right hampering the chances of Delhi students, while other states are very particular about keeping ample seats for their own regional wards. On top of it, they also give preference to their own students over other state students.
The following steps should be taken to stop the menace:
The right of a Delhi student to a seat in Delhi University is defined as below:
Note: The reserved quota system is as per government norms and is a part of above, though this system too should be abolished in favour of economically weaker sections of the society. Today the generation X in cities has forgotten what casteism is.
This is the perfect system, which should be followed or adopted by the Delhi University to thwart any undue discrimination against Delhi students.
In addition to this, universities and boards in other states should improve and enhance quality of education in order to prevent their students from running to Delhi University for a degree.
I certainly hope that all Delhites and the university office bearers, including the Ministry of Urban affairs, agree with my views and try to implement them immediately.
