When the economy is sluggish, it is even harder to get an unpaid internship in many companies but lucky ones who land up at the Facebook draw a mouthwatering salary of $5000 USD.

FOR AN internship, students at many occasions have to pay the concerned companies unlike their counterparts at social networking site Facebook who draw a mouthwatering salary of more than $5000 USD (Rs 2,75,000) per month. According to a report published by Business Insider this is an average salary of a software development intern at the Facebook.

As per the report, the monthly salary becomes around $6,800 USD after the addition of stipend for housing and living expenses. On an annual basis the interns with little or no work experience are paid a whopping amount of more than 40 lakh rupees if one ignores the taxes.

According to GlassDoor.com, a site where employees review their companies, the average monthly salary for a software engineering intern at Facebook is $6,229.

It is said that the reason for paying such a huge salary to interns is because it attracts the best talent available in the industry. The report also suggests that Facebook offers such a high pay to the interns to stop the young talent from going to other established companies in the field of IT related industries.

According to the report, the average start up salary of senior software engineers at the social networking giant Facebook is in the range of 72-75 lakh rupees per year.

The report says that the software engineers at the Facebook are considered the most valuable workforce because they are responsibile for converting founder Mark Zuckerberg's ideas into reality.

It is not that only the software engineers at Facebook are paid high, the report says that there are at least 10 other categories of employees in the company whose salaries are in six figures and that too in US dollars.
