KNEELING DOWN on one knee, and one hand on the other knee, which looks similar to a person who is offering a silent prayer in a religious manner, has become an iconic pose. A Google search about ‘Tebowing pose’ or ‘Tebowing’ reveals how popular he and his pose have become. Tim Tebow has to be one of the most well known players in the National Football League, at present. Normally, after a touchdown during the game, it is the same pose that Tebow strikes, which has become synonymous with him. Other sports persons are also using this pose, like in football in order to celebrate a goal. No wonder, he is popular in the US.
A poll that was conducted by ESPN, named him to be the most popular athlete in the USA, reported Yahoo. Many of us would have been surprised when Tebow topped the poll, where various athletes like Kobe Bryant are placed lower than him. While many experts in the sports are also saying that it is ESPN, which has made the player so popular. But one cannot blame them too, as he has been one of the most searched sports person in the country.
Though, one has to say that his popularity is not because of his game, as he is not considered to be a great quarterback, as the polls might suggest. Being a quarter back, he should be able to throw a long ball perfectly, but he is not very good at it. Still, he comes up with impressive display on the field, sometimes to erase his weakness.
He has been popular in the sport, which is at the same time famous in the US. Hence, advertisers and various companies pounced on the opportunity to tag a brand along with him, which would be helpful for the product too. He is also the spokesperson for Nike, Jockey International. On December, he was also featured on the cover of NFL’s official magazine.
Though, he has already made a name for himself in the sport, but the question is for how long can he sustain his popularity, which has grown manifold, beyond his expectations.
