While millions of people in India are struggling hard to make two times meal and existence, the swindlers in business and politicians are busy in making millions of rupees. Can this bridge the widening gap between poor and rich in our society?
SINCE LAST one week the Modi-Tharoor match has turned out to be much more interesting and keenly watched than any of the IPL matches so far. Even our Parliament has been disrupted by the Modi Vs Tharoor match. Politicians are jumping in like qualified players. Why we people in India are more attracted towards this league when so many issues are to be addressed in our daily life.
Like any other match, there are people supporting and opposing Tharoor Vs Modi from inside and outside. There are also a significant numbers which is not associated to either and watching from the fence. What makes this match so thrilling is that both Modi and Tharoor are two very high-profile individuals, who appear to have been carried away with money and power. Both have crossed the line more than once and what's more shocking, they seem to be never saying die attitude even Tharoor has resigned from Union Minister due to under pressure of his own party. Lalit Modi will have to go in next few days.
Big question is that when the IPL was designed on the base of various structures of international leagues such as the EPL, National Basketball Association (NBA), and National Football League (NFL) were studied and it objective was to arrive at a customized model that would meet both sporting and financial objectives not controversies. Why would anyone want to pay so much money for a cricket team?
While millions of people in India are struggling hard to make two times meal and existence, the swindlers in business and politicians are busy in making millions of rupees. Can this bridge the widening gap between poor and rich in our society? How it is justified in case of poor people? People who are enjoying and affording the IPL will surely oppose any action against IPL. The valid question is that why tax waivers and grants are given as perks to billionaires and millionaires behind the IPL under the pretext of making it a grand success despite the rising hunger goes unasked and unanswered. Where was our Income Tax Department so far? If this is way to following the IPL people and matches? In my opinion, when we know that it’s linked to match fixing, and enormous amounts of black-money, betting etc. The need of hour is to introduce transparency and accountability in all cricket matches not only in IPL’s functioning, also in BCCI functioning. It is time professional courses are introduced to teach how to handle power, fame and attention. With more and more people joining this league, this course can be expected to sell as much as IPL tickets have this season. Hope the BCCI is listening.
