The doctors' strike has caught Rajasthan Government off guard, negotiations between the striking doctors and government officials are going on to end the stalemate. Lets hope the agitation will be called-off by the striking doctors at the earliest to save
RAJASTHAN IS facing an acute health crisis in recent times as the strike called by doctors in the state has virtually paralyzed medical services across the state. Poor patients are bearing the impact the most as they are left to die with no one to treat them. The strike has already claimed 25 innocent lives, the death toll may increase as there are many who needs immediate medical treatment otherwise anything can happen.
A trivial incident that occurred on Saturday (August 4) has boiled into a big agitation. On that night a relative of an injured patient Nemi Chand allegedly behaved badly with a resident doctor at MDM Government Hospital, Jodhpur protesting poor treatment of the patient. The issue soon turned into a free for all fight between relatives of patients and doctors. Police was called in and to control the situation, it lathicharged the mob comprising doctors and relatives of patients.
Since then the doctors from Jodhpur are resorting to strike demanding action against police officials involved in the heartrending incident. The issue was further fuelled as doctors from Jaipur, Kota, Ajmer and Bikaner districts have also expressed their solidarity with the agitating doctors and have struck their work leaving thousands of patients with uncertain fate. Complicating the situation further, different unions of the doctors have plunged into the unsightly strike expressing their support for the agitating doctors of MDM Government Hospital, Jodhpur. Dr Shivraj Singh, secretary, Jaipur Medical Association said “"All the private doctors have decided to go on strike tomorrow affecting services in around 400 private hospitals". Naresh Roy, secretary, Rajasthan Medical College Teachers' Association, Kota, said “70 resident doctors are on strike in two government colleges and 100 senior doctors and medical college teachers will go on one-day mass leave tomorrow in support of Jodhpur doctors' demand”. The doctors’ strike has caught Rajasthan government off guard, negotiations between the striking doctors and government officials are going on to end the stalemate. Lets hope the agitation will be called-off by the striking doctors at the earliest to save the lives of many patient.
