In the world of magnificent movie sets, advanced camera techniques, renowned artists - Alina Samal and her protagonist Laxmiprasad stood different. Laxmiprasad- a palm leaf painter of whom the movie ‘The poem of the needle’ is all about.

A splendid lyrical documentary is presented by Alina this time. The documentary though simply but very beautifully portrays the daily life of Laxmiprasad. The viewers saw the world of Laxmi. There is every known personality framed in Laxmi’s studio. The documentary is a savage but uniquely modern presentation of art by Alina.

Laxmi’s ultimate lover is his art, the art of the needle. His life starts at the dawn, from collecting leaves to cutting and sizing them properly. After the leg work, starts the main magic of his needle. He punctures the outline drew in the leaf, and punctures it in such a way, that when he pours in colors of love it becomes a mesmerizing treat to the viewer’s eye.

A recognition deprived artist like Laxmiprasad could have sacrificed his artistic soul much before. But his poverty could not pull him down, he ignoring the consequences of daily life, responses to his lover’s call, he runs for love, runs for art. Winning over enormous difficulties of life, he keeps going with his needle, colors and palm leaves. Here, the audience can connect to both Laxmi and Alina’s concept.

The background music is commendable, poems used were again excellent and it showed that Alina used a very few number of resources. Still, the documentary is a success. People who have such patience, love and passion to art, artisans and also have the interest to know the inside story of these unfortunate patrons of art, must watch the documentary.
