Does marriage put an end to an actress' career in Bollywood?
Bollywood is full of examples of actress' careers screeching to a halt after they get married. Shilpa Shetty and Lara Dutta are examples of this syndrome, though, in today's times they're able to extend their careers through advertisements and TV.
WHAT DOES Shilpa Shetty and Lara Dutta have in common? Both are married and they chose to get married when their respective fim careers were on the verge of coming to an end. Both were reigining stars of Bollywood, some time back.

But ever since they got married, one hardly gets to see them on the big screen.
While Shilpa chose the small screen to stay in public view, Lara was seen endorsing a hair oil and a breakfast cereal brand.

It might be too early to comment about Lara, but judging by what happened to Shilpa, seems like once an actress decides to settle down, its a bye-bye to her film career.

Perhaps Ash might not be charecterised in the same bracket, since she’s working and has managed to stay in the limelight with films such as Action Replayy and Raavan. Even though the films sank at the box-office without leaving a trace, Ash is still in the league and quite in demand when it comes to advertisements.

How an actress decides to lead her life, is her personal decision. Madhuri, Bhagyashree and Sridevi are some actress who decided to call it quits after marriage, and chose to take a break from their filmi career. While Madhuri was seen judging a reality show some days back, Sridevi is sometimes seen at page 3 parties.

The treatment metted out to married actresses has been an issue for quite some time. The kind of roles one is offered depends a lot on the kind of film career she has had in the past as well as her current status, post marriage. This is one reason why many actresses today think twice before tying the knot.

The Bollywood industry is biased in giving out roles to actresses who are married, and this is one aspect where a lot of work still needs to be done.
