Dong Fangxiao loses Olympic bronze, proved underage
Chinese Gymnast Dong Fangxiao has been stripped of her Olympic Bronze medal from the 2000 games at Sydney, after Olympic body investigations found that she had been underage at the time of the event and thus ineligible.

CHINESE GYMNAST Dong Fangxiao has been stripped of her Olympic Bronze medal from the 2000 games at Sydney. The International Gymnastics Federation found through its investigations that the gymnast had been underage at the time she participated in the event. It has also proved an allegations that China had cheated at the event.

The International Olympic Committee stripped Dong Fangxiao of her bronze medal in a two day meet in Dubai after investigations proved she had been 14 at the time of the Sydney Olympics and thus underage. The eligibilty limit for the Olympics is gymnasts turning 16 in the Olympic year.

The medal has gone to the 2000 Olympics team, which included Amy Chow, Jamie Dantzscher, Dominique Dawes, Kristin Maloney, Elise Ray and Tasha Schwikert. One of the members of this team, Dominique Dawes commented, "Justice prevailed".

Apart from the bronze, Dong Fangxiao has been stripped of her sixth place result for floor exercises and the seventh place result for pole vault.

They are also unsure about fellow chinese gymnast Yang Yun, who had won a bronze at the uneven bars event in Syndney Olympics 2000 and are investigating the matter.

The matter about Chinese gymnasts being underage arose, after five gymnasts who had participated in the Beijing Olympics 2008, were suspected of being underage and investigated. China provided all information about these gymnasts, including original passports, family registers and ID cards and the matter was resolved. But it ensured that the International Gymnastics Federation took a closer look on all Chinese gymnasts.
