Don't want to face power cuts? Use solar energy.
Solar energy is probably the most easily available energy easily at our disposal and yet we do not make use of it. If we do not want non-renewable sources to run out then solar energy is the answer.
AS WE all know prices of commodities in India such as petrol and LPG gas are skyrocketing. In the given scenario, it is high time that India takes measure for the future. While nothing really can be done about the oil and gas but we should start conservation of electricity and water if possible.

Since we are a country that has a good number of sunny days and winters and rainy season govern only four months of a year, hence solar energy should be used for saving electricity. In doing so, one can always look at other countries for inspiration. Recently in Dubai announcements were made that all parks would be lighted with the help of solar energy.

Work by the Dubai municipality have been finished in the Al Sofouh area. This particular park covers an area of 1.55 hectares and it became the first place in Dubai to make use of the technology. Starting with a park they want to extensively use the solar energy and save electricity.

Similar attempts can be made in India as well as we have places that is lighted up for enjoyment and not for necessity. During festivals all the malls and various public places are designed and decorated with huge chunks of bulbs and they are lighted for the entire festival season. Even in Universities the same ritual is noticed. If one visits Banaras Hindu University, almost all around the year the place is decked with lights for some occasion. Dubai has come up with the solar energy park and soon they want to cover all the parks of Dubai and light them up with lights that draw power from Sun and not electricity.

India is known for the generation of wind energy and works for the installation of solar energy are also happening in Thar Desert but since the installation charges are too high for the project not much headway is happening in the direction. 35,000 sqkm area of the Thar Desert has been set aside for solar power projects, sufficient to generate 700 GW to 2,100 GW. In July 2009 a US$19 billion plan to produce 20 GW of solar power by 2020 was also unveiled.

Given the situation, very soon India would face electricity concerns and it is high time that they gear up for the situation as Dubai has done. Even now we can feel the pinch as power cut has grown to be rampant in India. Now is the time to act.
