Dora the Explorer, one of the most popular characters of Nickelodeon TV show, has a new fan club these days. Doctored image of Dora on the internet shows the cartoon heroine with a black eye in a police mugshot. Her alleged crime? Illegal border crossing and resisting arrest.
Stories of Dora’s arrest by immigration authorities is flooded on internet and social networking site. One story on Facebook shows her vaulting over the fence on the US-Mexican border. Another shows an advert for a mock television show entitled Dora the Illegal Immigrant.
Well, it is just a way of showing anger or much bigger conspiracy, is tough to guess at this stage. But the use of Child character for such a serious issue is not ethical.
The Doe-eyed cartoon heroine has been one of the most prominent Hispanic character on children’s television empire in the US. Her smiling face appearing on everything from lunch boxes to computer games.
Dora has brown skin, dark hair and speaks Spanish with an American accent. She lives in Tropical country with Pyramids, accompanied by friends Boots the monkey and Isa Iguana. It is not very easy to guess her origin, but most of the websites are presuming or portraying Dora as Mexican immigrant.
Whatever will be the fate of Arizona Immigration law, but it has definitely generated a big debate in the US and the use of Dora as symbol is going to make deep impact in coming times.
