Dowry can be eradicated in five steps
The word dowry has been overused and abused to fund all things, including tax incentives for women and laws biased for women. The hated dowry beast is the single biggest revenue generator for the certain women organisations.

IN THE 60 years since independence, three separate and coexisting laws have been passed against dowry, yet the evil has not subsided. The answers are simple. The society itself loves dowry so much that it does not want to let it go .

Everybody loves to hate dowry and accuse those who engage in it. Judges, leaders of women’s organisation's, politicians and lawyers clamour for valuable media attention by flogging the dowry beast every now and then. These personalities, however, know very well that without dowry, their five minutes of fame won't exist. In the absence of dowry, certain politicians, lawyers, police, CAW cells, Judiciary and a few feminists will have to shut shop in no time.

The media or the Indian government never mentions about the fact that the total number of married men committing suicides every year is twice that of the number of married women committing suicides . Quoting this fact, would stop the inflow of aid money for those factions who ask for it in the name of ridding dowry and bride burning. More than Rs 65 Billion are spent every year in India for women’s empowerment schemes . Eighty per cent of this money is contributed by Indian men. Not a single rupee is spent by the government on Men’s issues and men’s empowerment .

Infact, the problem of dowry can be overcome in just four years.

What the Indian government and NGOs claim has not been possible in 60 years, can actually be achieved in less than four years. The steps to eradicate the problem are simple .
  • Attack the root not the stem
Dowry must be stopped at the exchange stage . The police must raid marriages where dowry is being exchanged and arrest the groom, bride and all members accused of giving or taking dowry . This will also completely stop the 498A extortion racket .
  • Prosecute the dowry givers.
Prosecuting dowry givers will instil fear in the minds of people and they will then take a strong stand against giving any dowry. The society will slowly realise that the dowry hungry husbands will have to sit at home unmarried for life because no one will give dowry because of the strict laws. They will ultimately have to marry in dowry free marriages.
  • Stop extravagant marriages and have hotline numbers to report dowry exchanges.
  • Both the families who engage in dowry, including the bride and groom must be punished. But marriages worth crores happen every day in India and the government does not bat an eyelid. Further, a hotline should be set-up where people can report such exchanges.
  • Marriages must always with registered in court with the seal of a dowry prohibition officer. In these marriages, when the bride and groom take a solemn vow that no dowry has been exchanged, 498A will not be applicable. Then such cases would lessen where dowry charges are brought up only when the marriage starts going sour.
  • The law must be strictly enforced and all involved parties should be punished.

.Wonderful idea. But the law makers would not like the idea because they have excessive money for giving dowry for whch they exort the public money.
