Chavi Gupta, the resident of South City 1, Gurgaon knows many things about traffic rules. “One should follow the traffic lights, don't talk over the phone while driving, seatbelt is a must and do not drink and drive.”
Her painting was also inspired by the newspaper articles which made her aware about the current traffic scenario in the city. “I read lot of articles in newspapers and also observed what was happening on the roads and thus my task became a lot easier. My teachers also guided me constantly which sequentially helped me to lift the trophy.”
The young winner cashed in 10k and a trophy heavy than her in the Road Safety Week. Even though she scored full marks for her creativity, she wants to opt for Maths as her career option.
The teachers and the principal of the school are undoubtedly pleased with Chavi taking the first prize beating other schools running for the same.
Aditi Misra, the principal of DPS Gurgaon Sector- 45 said, “I feel good when kids win prizes in any creative field. The school has a strong emphasis on academics but with a difference. Academics becomes more beneficial if it is initiated and carried forward with something that students enjoy. It could be dance, sports, art or music. The school has taken an effort to try and involve the children in myriad of co- curricular activities along with the academics. Students learn more with the help of practical learning which will help them in life as well. Practical learning will be lifelong and it will be fun- filled and there from more enriching more for the children. Art is definitely a part of the curriculum.”
The principal further added, “Parents also play a vital role in enhancing the skills of their children and it's an advantage for the kids if their parents recognize their talent. We try to encourage students depending upon their skills. I am very proud of my students' achievements and would also like to mention the amount of hardwork the teachers/ staff put in to come up with outstanding results.”
The Road Safety Week is organized every year by the Gurgaon Traffic Police in the month of January and this time the organizers invited schools to participate in several activities concerned with the road traffic.
