Dr. Pradeep Chauhan retained as president of KU's Teachers Association
Dr Pradeep Chauhan retained the presidentship of the Kurukshetra University Teachers Association (KUTA) in a direct closely contested annual election by defeating his arc rival Dr Bhagwan Singh Chaudhary by a comfortable margin of 87 votes. Dr Chauhan polled 249 votes while Dr Chaudhary got 162 votes only.

FOR THE position of secretary of KUTA, Dr Parmesh Kumar was declared elected in a three-corner contest. He polled 173 votes, leaving behind Dr Rajpal Saharan and Dr Subhash Chander with 145 and 97 votes respectively. Dr Surinder Singh gave a crushing defeat to Dr Karambir in a direct contest for the Joint Secretaryship. Dr Singh polled 280 votes and Dr Karambir got 134 votes. For the position of tresurer, Dr Manish Gupta defeated Dr Hardeep Lal Joshi by a margin of 45 votes. Dr Gupta got 216 votes and Dr Joshi got only 171 votes.


According to Dr Devendra Sachdeva, PRO of the univesity and the Election Officer of the KUTA polls, out of total 430 teachers, 416 teachers exercised their votes in a very keenly contested election not only due to direct contests of office-bearers, but also for the positions of 16 members for the Executive Council of KUTA, for which 22 teachers were in the poll fray.

The contesting members who included senior teachers, former chairpersons, registrar and other academicia, made the polls intersting and closely-watched. Prominent among the elected EC members were Prof. Hawa Singh, Prof. SS Boora, Prof. CR Darolia, Prof Ashok Aggarwal, Dr Mahinder Singh, Dr MS Jaglan, Dr CR Jilova, Dr Lalit Nagpal, Dr Jasbir Dhanda, Dr Ram Avtar, Dr Abid Ali, Dr Sanjiv Gupat, Dr Amrit Singh, Dr Dilip Kumar, and only two ladies Prof. Madhu Bala and Dr Urmila. Elections were held in a very peaceful and congenial manner. Sweets were distributed after the declaration of results and all shared happiness, even the defeated ones - commented a senior teacher.
