Drinking tap water connection charges for multistoried residential apartment complexes should be reduced
The Telangana government recently issued orders on the proposal of the Commissioner & Director of Municipal Administration, Hyderabad for the benefit of below poverty line group households who are not having access to drinking water tap connection, who shall be granted one house service connection on payment of Rs 1 instead of Rs 200 in all the Municipal Councils, Municipalities and Municipal Corporations in the State.

As it was informed to the government that there will be no revenue loss for granting the house service connection at reduced charges which in turn will generate additional income to urban local bodies since new connections will be drastically increase along with monthly tariff collection for the supply of safe potable and protected drinking water through tap connection to each household, the government took the decision on reduction of tap connection charges.

It is an appreciable decision taken by the government which has been welcomed by the people of the state. The residents of the multistoried residential apartment complexes say that as per the Hyderabad Water Board's proceedings of 2003, water and sewerage connection charges worked out for 0 to 250 square meters and above slab square meter-wise, the fixed amount starting day wise from Rs 1.50 lakhs for ¾" - 20mm and goes up to Rs  15 lakhs for 4" - 100mm alongwith rate per extra square meter against a fixed square meter of plot area are charges ranging from Rs. 300/- Rs. 1500/-, are on the higher side, due to which several apartment complexes still not able to have access to drinking water tap connection.

The residential apartment complexes residents do expect the water board will look into their grievance and recommend a proposal to the government an affordable low fixed tap connection charges excluding clause of rate per square meter extra above fixed plot area for various dia size connections offered by the board.

The residents of the apartment complexes do expect that, like various concessions offered to the citizens on various services of ULBs, will reduce the drinking water tap connection charges to an affordable amount, so that it can be accessed by them.
