Drugs are pushing Indian youth down the drain
The culture of rave parties among urban and rich youth has taken roots since every year a few such parties are raided by the police but many go un-noticed. The news stories about raids indicate the tip of the drug iceberg.
More alarming is the involvement of youngsters in the drug abuse in a big way through the rave parties. In the prosperous state Punjab, drug addiction has become a great social and health nuisance.

Drug is the substance when taken into the body alters body's physical and mental functions. Even some sportspersons take drugs to heighten the physical function of their bodies and perform better in the competition. While some others take to drugs to alter their states of mind and derive heightened sensual pleasures.

Drug addiction is that state of persistent intoxication or drug dependency which is detrimental to the individual or society or both. Thus, drug addiction is a serious health and social problem wherein a craving for drugs takes roots.

When drugs are smoked or taken intravenously, their effect is produced almost immediately. When taken in this way, the drug gets into the blood stream and then to the brain tissues to give a high or a kick. And, this is what happens in rave parties.

In fact, when drugs enter the brain, they hijack or distort some neural pathways and make eating and sexing much more pleasurable in the rave parties. In response to getting the heightened sensual and mental pleasures, the person starts craving for the drug, and intimately, make him or her drug addict.

Once addicted, the life of the person starts revolving around the intake of the drug alone. Drug addiction causes withdrawal from socialization, absence from work, and indulgence into crimes varying from theft to murder as the addict desperately seek money to pay for drugs. Moreover, the ability to think gets totally blurred and the person gets into a confused state of mind.

Another dangerous thing that can happen through intravenous intake of the drugs is the spread of HIV-AIDS. This is because of the reason that addicts increasingly prefer to inject drugs into their veins for a quick 'high' so they become careless about the sterility of the syringe and start sharing it too. This practice leads to the transmission of HIV-AIDS among the group of addicts.
