A second earthquake in less than a month hit North California yesterday. Though there has been little damage the people in the area are shaken. Aftershocks were felt up to San Francisco, 440 km away.
AT 12:20 p.m. on Thursday February 4, 2010, an earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit Northern California very close to the Humboldt County area. No causalities have been reported and there has been no major damage to property. The total loss is yet to be estimated.
Last month, a 6.5 magnitude earthquake in the same area did minor damage to lots of buildings in Eureka. 26,000 people were affected. The total loss was estimated to be around $23.3 million. According to the U.S. Geological Survey there are 53 per cent chances that within a week 5.0 earthquake could hit Eureka again.
