Epicentre of the earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale that shook northeast India as well as neighbouring Bhutan was reported to be near the remote Munggar district. Strong tremors were also felt in Guwahati in Assam and nearby areas.
AN EARTHQUAKE measuring 6.3 on the Richter Scale shook northeast India as well as neighbouring Bhutan on Monday afternoon (September 21). The epicentre of the earthquake was reported to be near the remote Munggar district in Bhutan, while strong tremors were also felt in Guwahati in Assam and nearby areas.
There were no reports of injuries or casualties till the last reports came in from north eastern parts of the country. However, reports from Bhutan said that some buildings were damaged in the quake, which was centered around 180 kilometres east of Thimphu, capital of Bhutan.
As per United States Geological authorities, the magnitude of the quake was 6.3 on the Richter Scale.
In Guwahati, people were a bit shocked after the earthquake hit the city. Local residents said that they rushed out of their homes and gathered at open places as soon as they realised that an earthquake had struck.
Eyewitnesses also said that some of the buildings had developed cracks due to the tremors. Authorities, however, said that there was no report of any loss of life or injury to individuals on account of the quake.
The tremors were also felt in neighbouring states as well as Bangladesh and Lhasa, the capital of Tibet.
