MORE THAN 30,000 people from 45 states and one district (District of Columbia) took part in the Easter Egg Roll festivities on the South Lawn at the White House, USA, the home of the acting president himself, including families from as far away as Hawaii, Alaska and California.
For the first time, tickets to such an event were made available online so that families from across the nation could have the opportunity to attend it. The day's activities, under the theme ‘Let's Go Play’, were all meant to motivate the nation's youth to lead healthy and active lives.
Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, joined the guests on the ‘Story Time’ stage. There were also foot-tapping performances by Fergie of the ‘Black Eyed Peas’, and Ziggy Marley.
This event was held for the first time ever during the presidency of Rutherford Hayes, who invited local children to roll eggs on the South Lawn. It then became the annual tradition since 1878. Easter Egg Roll is now an annual rite of spring on the South Lawn.
