Ecuador Coup: President Rafael Correa rescued
On Thursday (September 30) President Correa was attacked with tear gas and water, he was also roughed up. President's personal security staff was also attacked, one was killed and another was injured.
ON THURSDAY (September 30), in Ecuador, a coup was attempted when the President Rafael Correa was attacked, hospitalised and kidnapped. Rafael Correa is the first president of the country, who has won the elections without the runoff. The trouble started, when President Correa went to the police barracks where the police officials were angry with their pay cuts.
 
A day before this coup, a law was passed by the Congress that the promotions of the police officials will be delayed and there will be no hike in the salary after the promotion. The law is not yet passed as it is not yet published to be effective. The President was attacked with tear gas and water, he was also roughed up. President’s personal security staff was also attacked, one was killed and another was injured.
 

President Correa, who recently underwent a knee surgery had to be hospitalised as he was unable to breathe after the tear gas was sprayed on him. In the hospital also Rafael was kept captive for many hours. All the highways were closed, schools were shut, airport was shut down and the state of emergency was declared. Some looting took place and some banks were also attacked during this period.

The president was rescued by the military after 12 hours in captivity at the hospital. The president said that he is very sad and also thanked his supporters, who stood with him risking their lives.
