Editor shot dead in Assam
The 40-year-old editor was returning from his office and the incident took place when he was just about to enter his residence. Witnesses said that the assailants came in a car, fired at him and sped away.

SOME UNIDENTIFIED gunmen shot dead Anil Majumdar, the editor of ‘Aji’, a renowned Assamese daily on Tuesday night (March 24).


The incident took place in the heart of Guwahati. The assailants fired on Majumdar indiscriminately from their automatic weapons from a close range outside his residence around 2230 hrs.


The 40-year-old editor was returning from his office and the incident took place when he was just about to enter his residence. Witnesses said that the assailants came in a car, fired at him and fled.


Medical reports revealed that Majumdar received seven bullet injuries in his chest. No terrorist organisation has yet claimed responsibility for this attack.


The Assam government condemned the incident. While speaking to the media, Assam government spokesperson and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Investigations are on. It would be too early to hazard a guess.” The government also promised that the offenders would not be spared.


Police suspects the hands of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) behind this killing. Majumdar was renowned for bold and fearless journalism. The media of Assam also condemned the attack on journalists.
