AHEAD OF the parliamentary elections that were scheduled to take place in September in Egypt, the government met with the demands of sacking of crass police personnel on Wednesday. In the process, nearly 700 police personnel were given the pink slip. Interior Minister Mansour el-Issawi announced the dismissal of the officers on Wednesday. The hugely disgracious forces were eliminated from service so as to cleanse the system and make way for a new government.
The ire against the police started when they shot down nearly 900 protestors during the Egyptian uprising at Tahrir Square.
The scheduled elections are now expected to take place in October or November, as reported by the state media. The January 25- February 11 gave much room to smaller political parties that rose to prominence, but their lack of preparedness have pushed the elections to the later part of the year as they would need some better standing against well financed parties such as the Muslim Brotherhood. The military, which took over the reins of the governance of the country since Hosni Mubarak stepped down, has already announced that preparations for the legislative elections would begin from September 30.
