Egyptian plane hijacked: Except crew and 4 foreigners, hijackers release all passengers
An Egypt Air domestic flight from Alexandria to Cairo was hijacked today and forced to land in Cyprus. According to reports the pilot of the plane was threatened by a passenger who was strapped with explosives. As per the latest developments the hijackers have reportedly released all the passengers from flight except crew members and four foreigners.

Through its official twitter handle Egypt Air has confirmed the news of hijack and release of passengers.

Egypt Air has also released some emergency numbers for the concerned dear and news ones of the passengers onboard.

A statement from Egyptian aviation authority says that MS181 is an Airbus and that it has about 60 passengers on board and five crew members. The pilot reported a threat from a passenger claiming to have an explosive belt.

Egypt's Civil Aviation Ministry said the plane's pilot, Omar al-Gammal, informed authorities that he was threatened by a passenger wearing a suicide explosives belt and forced him to land in Larnaca. The hijacker is named as Ibrahim Samaha, an Egyptian.

The Israel military as a precaution in response to the hijacking has scrambled war planes in its airspace.

According to media reports the motive behind the hijack was personal, and the hijacker had an ex-wife in Cyprus. Witnesses said the hijacker threw a letter on the apron of the airport in Larnaca, written in Arabic, asking that it be delivered to his ex-wife, who is Cypriot. Hijacker's ex-wife is on her way to airport to participate in negotiations. 

The hijacker has been identified as a professor of veterinary medicine at Alexandria University.
