Elderly people: A few observations
A country where deserting the elderly is on the rise, specially in the bigger cities, various television serials and movies have been released to highlight this issue. However, the tech and practical generation refuses to give any values to the parents.
ONCE YOU get married and have children, it requires a lot of effort to bring them right from their childhood to their young age in terms of many things like education and what not. But once they get married (which requires lot of expenses) and get settled, they move away to some other place and get settled - forgetting their parents. In most of the cases, parents are left alone. Lucky are those who have their children staying with them, if not all, but at least one. But this is quite rare. According to my thinking, daughters are much more caring for their parents, even after moving to another household after marriage. But, unfortunately in most of the regions of our country (like Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan); people do not want to raise a girl child. In many cases they get aborted although it is illegal to do so. But our country does not bother about this issue. Such people should be severely punished, and the punishment should be deterrent so that no one dares to get involved in such illegal activities.
There are many TV serials in this context that show the reality in this context. You must have seen an old movie ‘Avatar’ and a new one ‘Baghban’ that clearly show how the sons behave with their parents. This is what happens in real life too. Sons fully forget about their parents, once they get settled. They only think about themselves, and do not bother about their parents who had helped them to get settled. They get worried only to inherit their parent’s property, and nothing else. I am sure such children would get severely punished by the Almighty. In fact, there is a trio whom everyone must remember every day: God who sent us to this World, Parents who brought us up, and our friends (especially non-toxic) and our teachers who bestowed all the knowledge to us. Life would not have been there, had this not happened.
In UK and many other developed countries, one can mortgage his/her property to the Government, and then stay peacefully without any botheration. But, unfortunately in our country we do not have such a system. There is also another aspect of this issue, in big cities, where elderly people are left to themselves and keep a domestic help to look after them, it has happened many times that these servants quite often and cunningly murder their owners just for the sake of getting all their wealth. I pray that all the elderly people in our country lead a peaceful, healthy, and happy life. I wish them well.
