Elect honest and clean candidates: Sharad Yadav
JD(U) national president and NDA convenor Sharad Yadav called on the people of Uttar Pradesh to elect honest and clean candidates if they wish to see their state grow prosper. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.
THE OPPOSITION is divided and weak here in Uttar Pradesh. For the past four years the state is under misrule besides grim law and order situation, there has been virtual loot in every government department. The elections in the state are not too far, and once again the people of Uttar Pradesh which has the power to control the Centre, this state serves as the ‘remote control’ for Delhi, the people of the state must elect their representatives wisely while casting their ballot.

They need to uproot the mafia and ‘loot raj’ by coming out in a large number and vote for good, honest and clean candidates. They should not go by the party credentials but they must check the past record of the candidate whom they want to send in to the Vidhan Sabha. These were the views expressed by the Janta Dal United (JDU) national president and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) convenor, Sharad Yadav at a press conference that was held at the party’s head office here in Lucknow on Saturday.

Sharad Yadav arrived in the afternoon directly from Delhi after attending the meet on the CAG that has pointed a finger towards Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit too, in the Common Wealth Game (CWG) mess. Replying to a question related to the Congress party’s problem after the party’s president and the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi went abroad to the United States for an operation, Sharad Yadav said it was up to the members of Congress party how they would be managing its affairs, but yes as a person and MP I wish her speedy recovery and may she get well soon and return to India.

While talking to the press, Sharad Yadav said he had asked finance minister Pranab Mukherjee to pass on the benefit of subsidy to small farmers who were using just 12 per cent of the diesel and the government must withdraw the subsidy that it was giving in the automobile sector where luxury car owners can afford to shell out few more bucks. Besides there was also no need to give subsidy to Mobile tower companies as they can afford the cost too, said Yadav.

Sharad Yadav said, “time has come where nobody if found indulge in corruption would be spared. 22 people are already languishing in jails and soon more will follow. I am not going to give up my struggle against the issues of corruption and black money.”

When a scribe asked Yadav about the recent land scam that happened in his own state of Bihar, Sharad said firstly it was wrong to say that there was any scam in Bihar because all the persons who were allotted the land under the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) scheme got the land on same price. There were some 22,000 people who were allotted plots and they took it on the same price. So there was no question of any scam. Yes, there were few people who later on joined the party and became MLA but then that doesn’t make enough reason to accuse the Nitish Kumar government, which has been doing a good job in Bihar and now people in the foreign nations too, have recognized this fact.

Replying to another question that RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav will be sitting on a dharna against the irregularities in BIADA, Sharad Yadav said Lalu was not finding any issue to corner the government and he has been doing this for media publicity as he has the habit of making a hill out of the mole.

Earlier in the day, Janta Dal United state president Suresh Niranjan ‘Bhaiyaji’ welcomed Sharad Yadav and asked party workers to give their full cooperation and support to party candidates wherever they are.

Suresh Niranjan told that due to some unavoidable reasons party’s ex MP and national general secretary K C Tyagi and R C P Singh (MP, Rajya Sabha, Bihar) could not come to Lucknow and it was Sharadji who agreed on coming to the city and gracing the occasion for which he expressed his gratitude.

Leader of Apna Dal Pradeep Srivastava and Parshuram Patel joined the party in front of party’s president Sharad Yadav. Among the others who were present on the occasion were Subhash Pathak (general secretary), Jasbeer Singh Bakshi (general secretary-legal cell), Janta Dal United national president of the Youth wing Shailendra Yadav.
