The Election Commission (EC) is likely to sign up one of Bollywood's biggest film star, Aamir Khan as its national icon. He will be a part of EC's voter awareness initiatives for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He is expected to feature in the print and audio-visual program, aimed at educating people about the importance of choosing the right candidate.
Though EC had approached
Khan earlier in the year, it is only now that the terms of his
association as a brand ambassador might be finalized. The arrangement
would be purely voluntary and non-commercial. Aamir Khan is expected
to have a final meeting with the EC soon, followed by the
announcement as a latest icon for the voter awareness by next week.
The film star, who is
known for his methodical approach to acting will join the likes of
former president APJ Abdul Kalam, cricketer MS Dhoni, Tennis star
Saina Nehwal, and boxer Mary Kom, who are the existing national icons
helping the EC to enthuse voters in participating in the upcoming
elections, reported nnis.
Virat Kohli's name was
also doing the rounds earlier. In fact, Kohli was part of an
awareness campaign for the Delhi assembly elections last year.
Over 814 million people
will be eligible to vote in the 2014 elections, making it the biggest
Lok Sabha polls.
