Election Symbol 'Broom': Aam Aadmi Party wishes to sweep away the dirt in politics
Exactly one year after the launch of Aam Aadmi Party was announced, the party formally launched its election symbol ?Broom? today ? which symbolises cleansing of polity of the country. The symbol was launched at Valmiki colony at Mandir Marg, which falls in New Delhi assembly constituency from where Arvind Kejriwal has announced that he would be contesting elections against Sheila Dikshit.

While launching the symbol Arvind Kejriwal said, “There are 162 tainted politicians in the parliament and 25 MLAs in the Delhi Assembly who have serious charges against them. The ‘Broom’ symbolises that the time has come to clean the politics of the country.” Aam Aadmi Party has vowed not to give ticket to any tainted candidate.

The party’s symbol was unveiled today as exactly a year back it was announced that we would be launching a political party. Last year, Anna Hazare, Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai sat on a 10 day fast demanding action against 15 corrupt ministers including the PM Manmohan Singh. The indifferent attitude of the government then paved way to the launch of this party.

The symbol was launched at a valmiki colony because more than 90% of Delhi’s safai karamcharis come from this community. Arvind Kejriwal said, “The ‘broom’will become our weapon from now on. We will fight shoulder to shoulder with this community to clean this country.” He also emphasised on better education for creating an equal society for all.

Soon after the ‘Broom’ was introduced as the party’s symbol, AAP leaders and volunteers undertook a cleanliness drive in the area. Armed with a ‘Broom’ Arvind Kejriwal, Shanti Bhushan, Prashant Bhushan, Kumar Vishwas, Manish Sisodia, Yogendra Yadav, Dinesh Vaghela, Gopal Rai and Sanjay Singh went around cleaning the area. Arvind Kejriwal also asked all party volunteers to indulge in shramdaanfor two hours every week in their locality. He also urged people to give 3 months of their time to change the politics of the country.

Several independent surveys conducted by C-Voter, Total TV and CSDS have indicated that Aam Aadmi Party would be a major player in the forth coming elections. This means that people have started to perceive AAP as the much desired political alternative. As soon as AAP comes to power, the party would pass Janlokpal Bill propagated by Anna Hazare within 15 days. The Lokpal as soon as it comes into being would be given three cases to investigate – electricity scam, water scam and the recent transport scam.
