With high ambitions, the present leaders and legislators are using the mandate of the people for the gains of the self, the family and the party and are busy misusing public money for accumulating wealth and property for their future generations
THE CONSTITUTION of India has given rights to the people to elect their representatives for state Assemblies as well as the Parliament. The representatives so elected form the government to look after the peoples’ welfare and provide transparency in administration. These representatives form the government on the basis of the majority of the votes polled in their favor.
The Constitution of India came into effect from 26th January 1950. A long sixty years have passed and a lot of changes have taken place since then. Hundreds of amendments have been made to the Constitution during all these years.
A majority of our people were illiterate and economically poor. They could not get enjoy the rights prescribed in the Constitution till now although, in papers, their prosperity is reflected regularly. They still do not understand several serious and sensitive issues related to them. A simple majority to a political party or an alliance is enough to entitle it to form a government.
There was a time when a majority of the leaders suffered a lot in the hands of foreign rulers. They knew that the countrymen had to lose even their lives and properties for gaining freedom, honor and respect to the country. The number of political parties was nominal.
The Indian National Congress, being the largest party, came to power with heavy majority. The freedom fighters, social workers and clean image citizens were assigned duties to look after the welfare of the people. They honestly represented the people.
Unfortunately, the makers of the Constitution did not foresee that the future generation would take undue advantage of its loopholes. At the time of enforcing the Constitution, its makers did not expect that it would be used as a tool for grabbing wealth and power for personal or political gains in the future.
With high ambitions, the present leaders and legislators are using the mandate of the people for the gains of the self, the family and the party and are busy misusing public money for accumulating wealth and property for their future generations.
They are busy in getting their family members elected to the Legislative Assemblies and the Parliament. Using the benefits of democracy, they muster majorities in the legislatures. A number of accused criminals are now in power. Honest and clean image leaders are reduced to a minority.
In general elections, there is unabated use of money and muscle power. The genuine electorate has no say in putting their grievances on record. They cannot even be in touch with their elected leaders. The leaders, after getting elected, keep a distance from their voters.
The elections in the country have become a farce and a costly affair. Without money and muscle power, nobody can win the elections. It has now become an expensive affair. That is why the elected representatives are busy collecting money to be spent in elections.
They know they have been elected for only five years. Therefore, they want to get their money back as early as possible. After accumulating huge property, they start creating funds for taking part in the next elections. No matter how much money they manage to get, their desire for money increases and they wish to collect more and more funds for the next election.
The elections to the 15th Lok Sabha have come to remind the people of their rights. They have to decide fairly about the next government and elect people who can provide a corruption-free administration.
.A nice exposition on some facets out of many that our present system had allowed to gather moss around it every 5 years.Sensible public has no option even for a button to signify his view that "none of the candidates is worth acceptance for the constututional trust that is reposed on them.in case elected".To understand the essential purpose and object which the Constitution provides and desires to serve and achieve, perhaps there is one pillar in the Constitution which ,as of right ,can read in between the lines
of the Constitution to make certain matters straight. Perhaps that ud be the greatest day for our country.
The need of the hour is to draft a new constitution deleting the past clauses which have led the administration to corruption. lack of national feeling is the main cause for the draw backs and the country's education system to be modified.
