Elephant polo fun event at Campbell's bash cancelled

The district administration of Jodhpur has told Naomi Campbell not to go ahead with the elephant polo match as it will be a violation of the Animal Welfare Act and treated as Cruelty to Animals.

THE PROTEST campaign by an NGO, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has made British supermodel Naomi Campbell to put off the elephant polo match for the entertainment of guests during the on-going birthday bash for her billionaire Russian boyfriend Vladimir Doronin in Jodhpur.

The event managers had sent out invitations to the guests for the polo match but due to the protest letter of PETA, the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has directed the organizers to cancel the event as part of four-day celebrations for the 50th birthday of Doronin.

The district administration of Jodhpur has told Naomi Campbell not to go ahead with the elephant polo match as it will be a violation of the Animal Welfare Act and treated as Cruelty to Animals.

According to the law, using animals for entertainment or fun events without approval of AWBI is a violation of the act.

Reportedly, the birthday bash event managers had planned to transport 10 elephants from Jaipur in trucks to Jodhpur and two teams with four members each to play the royal game to entertain Naomi’s guest.

However, the pre-birthday bash at Mehrangarh Fort on Tuesday was held amid heavy security with celebrities from Hollywood and the fashion industry as guests to the event.

Singer Diana Ross will be receiving Rs.2.7 crore to perform at the four-day and much-publicized Naomi's bash, it is learned.
