The elated Chief Minister of Bengal says: “We are a poor state. What can we give but love and good wishes?”. Gautam Gambhir, the skipper of the winning team, was overjoyed to say: “Aami Kolkatar chele”. Shah Rukh replied in Bengali: “ Korechhi, Lorechhi, Jeetechhi Re”. Juhi Chawla accompanied by her husband Jay Mehta repeated victory cry at the ITC Sonar Bangla after reaching there at midnight.
KKR defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets Sunday to lift their maiden IPL title. All are waiting for the felicitation and the roadshow, which the State government organizes for the KKR. It is a grand day for Kolkata cricket lovers. The Eden Garden gates will be opened to the public at 9am on Tuesday. CM will greet the Knights. Each Knight will be felicitated with kantha –stitch uttariya of Mamata’s favourite colour, Blue and white. They will be given Gold Chains with lockets inscribed with ‘Bengal loves You’. They will be given a memento with a congratulatory inscription.
They will get a packet of delicious sweets from North Kolkata’s century old sweets shop Girish Chandra Dey and Nakur Chandra Nandy. “This after noon we received a call from the Chief Minister’s office and they placed an order for our signature sandesh cake. We will start making the big –size sandesh cake from 4am tomorrow with freshly procured cottage cheese(chhana), though the flavor and the weight of the sweets has not been decided yet,” said Pratip Nandy , the owner of the shop. But special care is being taken to maintain the quality of the sandesh. Three bands will perform at the function- Chandrabindoo. Bhoomi and Dohar. They will belt out special songs for KKR. A big cake with KKR's slogan "Korbo, Lorbo, Jitbo re" (We will do it, we will fight it out, we will win it) written on it will be cut, while Bengali band Chandrabindoo will perform.
The Kolkata Knight Riders' bond with the state and the city now keeps getting stronger. West Bengal’s brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan will be with the players in a procession with the IPL trophy from Hazra crossing in South Kolkata to Writers Building, a distance of six kilometres, where the Chief Minister would greet them. The main programme will be held at the historic Eden Gardens – which will be thrown open to the public to watch the one-hour function free of cost. SRK and the players will astride in an open top vehicle, proudly displaying the trophy to the people who are expected to line the route. On the way, the players are likely to be feted at Jadu Babu’s Bazar before reaching the state secretariat, the Writers’ Building, where the trophy will be shown to Banerjee by Shah Rukh and other team members.
"This is a big achievement. The team from the city has won and we are all proud of that. Shah Rukh (Khan) is our brand ambassador and his team has won, so we want to felicitate the winners on behalf of the state government," Banerjee said at the state secretariat. She does not want to miss the chance of refurbishing her image this time as former Left Front Minister Ashok Bhattacharya used to do with Saurav earlier. Kolkata is waiting for Shah Rukh with a big smile. It had been a long waiting for the win in the IPL. The hot weather in Kolkata will be ignored by the cricket lovers of Kolkata. After all Kolkata is Kolkata.
