Elites entering into prostitution for quick money in India
India has been witness to an unprecedented rise in modern and high class sex trade in the recent past with sophisticated and educated women engaging in this business to earn money. Delhi is the hub; other cities are also not far behind - A report.
LOW-LIT ROOMS, loud music, garish makeup and gaudily clad women are no more the way prostitution in India looks like. Today there's a deluge of highly sophisticated, urbane and educated female aspirants for the trade. That it is not by will that one enters the trade is a huge myth. That which is known as the commercial capital of India is home to the conventional poor prostitutes forced into the trade, but the capital of Delhi is often called the capital with a prefix, i.e., the 'sex capital'.

Shocking revelations subsequent to the raids carried out by the Delhi police recently include hair-raising facts. A young girl in her twenties and a supervisory post holder, remarked, 'since the money is good, I don't mind at all, its fun and it's lucrative'. The reason why these girls enter prostitution ranges from 'just for fun', to 'quick money' to, 'family sustaining', to 'helping maintain a lavish life'. Now, all this is part time. Attractive, slim, smart and dainty girls pile up huge money ranging from Rs.10, 000 to Rs.60, 000 (200$ to 1200$) per night.

These girls do it without the slightest hesitance or timidity. There are rich kids who adapt to the sex trade for earning that extra buck. What is noteworthy is the fact that top officials, businessmen, politicians, lawyers, etc, are the clients. "I encourage businessmen and other high-profile people who comes to Delhi since they pay good money", was the brazen comment of one of the 'professionals'.

Owing to the fact that the topmost officials including politicians and other influential people are the clients of the prostitutes, it is not easy to root out the business. Moreover even if the raid turns out successful, the trade re-starts soon enough. The one night stand takes place in posh hotels, five stars, or superior houses of the pimp. In some cases the client offers the place that may include the latter's residence.

Farmhouses are used to host sexual orgies. The annual turnover in this business is estimated to be 500 crore, that is, ten times the budget of a big bollywood movie. These sex-workers are educated, speak good fluent English and belong to well-to-do, affluent families. They include employees, smart college girls, mature school girls, out of work actresses, models and other professionals of the glamour world. The popular sex hubs include massage parlors, escort services, and all that. "Even school and college girls' from reputed convent institutions are part of the trade", said one of the investigative journalists.

The entire transaction before the meeting is reportedly carried out through phone calls. There are, in fact, recruiters to this trade, and these people hit the malls, nightclubs, lounges, discs, etc to approach girls whom they deem fit for the trade. Surprisingly, for us and not for them, these girls come clean about the fact that they don't mind casual sex in return for big money. Many such sex-workers are free from the trouble of pimps, they simply 'self employ' and earn as much as Rs. 50, 000 per night. Models and actresses earn up to 1.5 lacs (3000$) per weekend.
Such high profile sex trade is also a reality in metropolises like Mumbai, Calcutta, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Whether this epitomizes modernization or immorality is tough to comprehend.
