USERS OF popular social networking website Facebook, are being warned about an Email password reset scam, which is slowly worming its way among the service's 400 million users as per an announcement by experts on Thursday.
As part of this Email password reset scam, users get a fake, but legitimate looking Email alert, which warns them that they need to reset their password. This Email is accompanied by an attachment, which users are asked to open so as to get their newly password. When this attachment is downloaded, according to McAfee Labs, it sets up a lot of malware on the user's computer, including Trojans which steal passwords, fake antiviruses and the like.
Dave Marcus, McAfee Labs security research and communications manager, said that users need to be very careful with such mails, especially those which are unsolicited, that is those which have been sent sans a request for them by users. This is the only way to should be clued in to the scam when it promises to provide an unsolicited Facebook password reset.
He said, "Companies don't send you unsolicited passwords. Users have to look at their inboxes with a bit of skepticism. The volume of spam and scams is monstrously high. Most of the e-mails in your inbox are either a scam or a phish."
.I am in receipt of an email stating that I had won a lotto lottery from one of the European Government sponsored â first letter says that it is recommend for me to travel to that country to sign the necessary documents and then claim my money which could be wire transferred to my bank of origin (staying country). The second mode states that I can ask for using the authorising courier who will make all the necessary documents available to me at my sitting place but I had to incur the courier charges. Since the stake money was huge, I was a little tempted and I sent a favourable reply asking for more clarifications. The second reply came stating that I had to travel to a different country in the European Region, I had to incur a certain of Euro money first to claim the amount as the amount is fully insured plus I should not tell anyone I had won the lottery as the organisers may face impersonisation problem etc..It is time all those engaged with online security must do something to tighten up the system country wise and world wise. Thanks
