WITH THE violence and commotion across Philippines showing no sign of dwindling, the government of Philippines imposed law of emergency in some of the worst affected regions of the country today (November 24, Tuesday).
The election related violence began last week with the government announcing poll in May 2010. Till date, according to reports emanating from the capital Manila, more than 30 people have lost their lives in election related violence, the province of Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat have been worst affected and have been placed under indefinite state of emergency.
Besides, government has also imposed emergency in one more city Cotabato, which also witnessed wide spread killing of innocent women and children and damage to government property. Police chief of Maguindano province has been removed and several other officers have been relocated to ensure law and order.
Cerge Remonde, the president’s media secretary said, “There is an urgent need to prevent and suppress the occurrence of several incidents of lawless violence, which are a great concern for the government.” Emergency rule will provide outstanding power to military and police to nab the culprit and restore law and order in the country.
