End negative image of Islam: Iranian President Hassan Rouhani
In his inaugural address at the International Islamic Unity Conference held in Tehran on December 27, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed the need for Muslims to improve the negative global image of Islam. He called on the Muslims to 'remove negative image of Islam' from the 'cyber and real spaces'.
Rouhani urged the Muslims to unite and raise the voice against all the killings and bloodshed in Syria, Iraq and Yemen. He was of the view that both Sunni and Shiite Muslims must be united against the current bloodshed and polarization of Arab world on Sunni-Shiite lines must end.

Rouhani said that the Middle East is embroiled in chaos because of disunity among Muslims and the extreme Islamic groups are promoting a picture of a fanatical Islam. Internationally, the "Muslim World" was being projected as that of 'bloodshed, extremism, radicalism, terrorism and fascism', he told the participants of the conference.

He went to the extent of accusing Saudi Arabia of promoting poverty and terrorism in the region and America for using 'war against terrorism' as a 'pretext' to discriminate against all Muslims.

He said that terrorism in the Middle East was creation of America. According to him, Muslims urgently need to unite to improve the world's opinion of Islam which has suffered a serious setback.
