INDIA WAS thrashed by England at Trent Bridge in the second Test match of the series. England has taken a 2-0 lead in the series. It was a comfortable win for the English side as they lost the match by 319 runs and a day to spare. Stuart Broad was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all round performance in front of his home crowd.
The Indians were chasing a target of above 400 runs in the fourth innings, which is always a daunting task. The Indians seemed to be under pressure as they had already lost the first match of the series. The Indian team were bundled out for a score of 158 runs, with most of the batsmen failing to cross the single digit mark. Sachin Tendulkar showed some temperament and played some great strokes en route to his half century. Tim Bresnan was the player of the day for England as he managed to take 5 key Indian wickets, and also scored 90 runs in England's second innings. It is time for the Indian batting line up to be worried as they have not been able to put 300 runs on the board for some time now.
The Indian team's famed batting line up fell like a pack of cards. None of them could stay on the crease for a longer duration. The first two wickets that fell for India, that of VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid, put them on the back foot, as the Indian team were dependent on these two players to save the Test match for India as they were capable of batting for long duration. The Indian scorecard read 13 for 2 after both these players were dismissed early in the match. The England team never looked back after their dismissal, as they were sure about England’s win.
The Indian team would be heading towards Birmingham to play the all important third Test match of the series. The Indians must win both the third and the fourth Test match to level the series and retain the world number 1 Test ranking status. The Indian team would like their injured players such as Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag, and Gautam Gambhir to come back in the starting 11, and strengthen the squad when they play their next Test match starting August 10.
